Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division are asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver who struck a female pedestrian on Wilton Place in Hollywood on July 17 and fled the scene.
The driver being sought is believed to have hit the victim as she was laying in the roadway after another driver also struck her minutes earlier. The first driver is cooperating with investigators and has not been arrested or charged, said Det. D. Holmes, with the West Traffic Division.
The initial collision occurred at approximately 4:55 a.m. on Wilton Place just north of Sierra Vista Avenue, which is located one block south of Santa Monica Boulevard in a neighborhood just east of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Investigators said the victim was first struck by a Toyota Corolla that pulled away from the curb and headed north on Wilton Place. After being struck, the victim fell backward into the roadway, where she was struck by a Nissan Rogue traveling northbound on Wilton Place.
Holmes said there is no description of the Nissan driver, but the vehicle was dark-colored, possibly blue or black. The Nissan, which sustained front end damage, was last seen turning east on Santa Monica Boulevard. Holmes said the vehicle’s front bumper and shroud were recovered at the scene.
Holmes added that investigators determined the series of events through security camera footage and witness accounts. The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner-Coroner did not identify the victim pending notification of next of kin, but said she was in her 20s. Police are reminding motorists that they are required by law to remain at the scene after collisions and to notify authorities if there are injuries.
