Federal authorities announced that a man who served two decades in state prison for armed bank robberies in the 1990s was sentenced on July 26 to nearly 20 years in prison for committing another 10 bank robberies.
Prosecutors said the defendant, Todd Eugene Cannady, 61, admitted to robbing banks from July 2018 through March 2021 in Century City, Manhattan Beach, Carson and Torrance, as well as locations in the Inland Empire. Cannady pleaded guilty in October to one count of armed bank robbery and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence.
He stole $757,763 during the 10 robberies, authorities said. During a robbery in 2019, Cannady yelled, “John Dillinger lives,” prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum filed with the court.
