The June 10, 2004, issue of the Beverly Press and Park Labrea News showed West Hollywood officials celebrating the opening of the long-awaited West Hollywood Gateway shopping complex at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea avenue.

Then-Councilman Jeff Prang, who joked about running up his credit cards at the new retail destination, was joined at the celebration by West Hollywood Councilmembers John Duran, left, Abbe Land and John Heilman.

The 243,000-square-foot complex was developed by J.H. Snyder Company and created a distinctive gateway on the city’s east­side, city officials said. The complex is still anchored by Target and Best Buy stores, and features more than a dozen other retailers and restaurants.
