The city of West Hollywood Homeless Initiative is resuming its efforts to provide on-site outreach and services at the West Hollywood Library for community members experiencing homelessness.
The program, which began providing outreach and services in October 2016, is a strategic collaboration between West Hollywood, the Los Angeles County Library and the social services providers that work with the city, including APLA Health, Ascencia, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, Step Up on Second and the Tarzana Treatment Centers. The organizations are partnering to provide on-site weekday outreach hours to connect people to services and support at the West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.
“The library outreach program is an innovative offering that advances the city’s Five-Year Plan to Address Homelessness in Our Community and support people’s well-being,” West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister said. “The on-site teams help connect people experiencing homelessness with resources that accelerate getting back into housing – whether it’s supportive counseling, enrolling in shelter services, signing up for substance abuse treatment, finding jobs or other needed support. We are so grateful for the collaborative partnership with L.A. County Library and our contracted service providers, whom our community members rely on for help and support.”
“One of our city’s core values is respect and support for people, and the library outreach program epitomizes the city’s longtime commitment to this value by making lifesaving resources and information available in a safe and dignified community space,” Mayor Pro Tempore Sepi Shyne added.
Representatives of the city’s contracted social services agencies coordinate outreach. All of the organizations are nonprofits with expertise in serving people who are experiencing homelessness, including some of the city’s most vulnerable community members such as LGBTQ youth and people who have mental health needs and substance use issues. The providers also make referrals to other services and programs based on need.
Outreach and services will mostly be offered in the West Hollywood Library’s second floor meeting room. Ascencia will provide services from 1-3 p.m., Monday, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday. The Los Angeles LGBT Center will offer services from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday. The Tarzana Treatment Center will offer services from 1-3 p.m., Wednesday. Step Up (first floor, JVS WeHo Works Office) and the Los Angeles LGBT Center (second floor) will offer services from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday. APLA Health will provide services from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday.
