Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is joining the cities of West Hollywood and Los Angeles in celebrating Pride Month in June and honoring the LGBTQ+ community.
“Cedars-Sinai was founded in 1902 on the principles of diversity, inclusion and quality health care for all,” said Nicole Mitchell, Cedars-Sinai’s chief diversity and inclusion officer. “We are as committed to these principles today as we were 120 years ago. That’s why Cedars-Sinai is participating in numerous events that recognize the accomplishments and address the unique health needs of the LGBTQ+ community.”
Cedars-Sinai will kick off Pride Month by hosting a symposium on June 2, starting at 7 a.m., and June 3 beginning at 12:15 p.m., at the Sofitel Hotel, 8555 Beverly Blvd. The symposium will focus on the specific cancer care needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Oncologists, surgeons, researchers, community organizers and health equity specialists will come together to better understand how examining sexual orientation, gender and cancer could help prevent, detect and cure disease. The Cedars-Sinai Community Health Improvement team and the Research Center for Health Equity will also staff a booth at the West Hollywood Pride Street Fair from June 3-5 and will offer educational resources and health information. The fair will be held on Robertson and San Vicente boulevards between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.
More than 200 Cedars-Sinai employees, family members and friends will march in the inaugural WeHo Pride Parade on June 5. Approximately 100 Cedars-Sinai volunteers and employees will fill bags of food and supplies for members of the LGBTQ+ community on June 7 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. at Big Sunday, 6111 Melrose Ave. for Pride Makes a Difference.
Cedars-Sinai will also support L.A. Pride by participating in the Pride in the Park festival on June 11 at Los Angeles State Historic Park, 1245 N. Spring St. Representatives of the medical center will disseminate information about LGBTQ+ health resources and programs. Approximately 300 Cedars-Sinai employees and their families will also march in the L.A. Pride Parade on June 12 in Hollywood to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.
