The city of West Hollywood invites community members to spend the day at West Hollywood Park as part of this year’s Lesbian and Queer Women Visibility Week’s “Meet Me in the Park” gathering on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
The event will include a full schedule of programming taking place in and around the Great Lawn at West Hollywood Park, located at 647 N. San Vicente Blvd.
The day’s programming will begin at 10 a.m. with a sound bath meditation.
At 11 a.m. there will be welcoming remarks from members of the West Hollywood City Council immediately followed by “You Want Me to Call You What?” a Lesbian Speakers Series panel discussion featuring gender non-confirming, nonbinary and masculine presenting persons who have created welcoming workspaces for lesbian and queer women of all presentations. Panelists will include USC adjunct professor Dr. Diandra Bremond, assistant principal at Animo Ralph Bunche Charter High School Kim Fuentecilla, executive director of ProjectQ Madin Lopez and actor, comedian and entrepreneur Kalela McNeil.
At 12:30 p.m., participants can enjoy a pup meet up and contest, which will include prizes for best butch, best femme, best costume, best dog-human look-alike, best trick and cutest queer dog.
From 1:30-5:30 p.m., a field day in the park will be held featuring games such as cornhole, giant Jenga, interactive bingo and tug of war, along with some team sports.
“Meet Me in the Park’ will also include a guest DJ and other fun activities with the community.
The city recommends that visitors bring a blanket, yoga mat, lawn chair, sunscreen and items for picnics in the park.
The West Hollywood City Council is commemorating Lesbian and Queer Women Visibility Week through May 1. The city is displaying the Lesbian Pride flag in medians on Santa Monica Boulevard and at West Hollywood City Hall.
