In response to rising crime, residents marched from Los Angeles City Hall to Los Angeles High School in this photograph in the March 30, 1972, issue of the Park Labrea News.
The march, known as “Walkers Crusade for Peace,” was organized by the Wilshire Police Council, which was headed by Fuller Avenue resident Harry K. Gilliland.
Hundreds of people participated, and a public safety fair was held afterward at Los Angeles High School. Members of the community can still participate in the LAPD Wilshire Division’s Community Police Advisory Board, which offers residents an opportunity to provide information and advice to authorities, and to take information from the police department back to the community.
