Re “L.A. City Council approves electric vehicle master plan,” April 7 issue
We need LAUSD to join in on this historic change. As a parent of a fifth grader at Palms Elementary School, I am excited to see that climate literacy will soon be integrated into students’ curriculum across LAUSD. Car pollutants cause immediate and long-term effects on the environment, effects that we have been convinced to ignore because of our high dependency on fossil fuels.
My child and over 65,000 other students in LAUSD suffer from asthma and respiratory health issues, which is only worsened by their constant exposure to these pollutants. We can no longer rely on fossil fuels, and teaching our children that sustainable alternatives exist is essential in diminishing the climate doom that many youth face.
