The MAK Center for Art and Architecture will present the 19th iteration of “Garage Exchange Vienna-Los Angeles, Cosmic Commissioner” running from April 14-July 3. An opening reception will be held on April 14 from 6-8 p.m. The Vienna-based artist duo Hanakam & Schuller collaborated with Los Angeles architects Current Interests to develop an exhibit for the Mackey Apartment’s Garage Top Gallery. The underly­ing narrative of the exhibition is a satirical text by Victor Gruen from 1975.

In the text, a cosmic commis­sioner meets various characters such as architects, urban planners and environmentalists on Earth. Reflecting on the text and its retro future concepts, the gallery space is re-rendered as an interior landscape of strangely specific surfaces, iri­descent imagery and muffled sounds.
