Students of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on March 25 gathered to commemorate Pope Francis’ consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Virgin Mary.
Scholas Occurrentes USA partnered with Christ the King School in Hollywood to host a candle lighting ceremony for peace to unite students at the school with students throughout the Archdiocese and around the world.
“We are honored to have been a part of this beautiful celebration by the students at Christ the King School, one of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ diverse and vibrant school communities,” Scholas USA executive director Joe Alarcon said. “This was an opportunity for students to share their prayers and take action during these challenging times in our world. Scholas, through the leadership and example of Pope Francis, strives to empower young people to be positive agents of change in their own ways, and we are glad that we could do that here for the students and for all who joined remotely via livestream.”
During the ceremony, students presented a peace mural created in partnership with Scholas USA that included their personal prayers for peace. The mural was part of Scholas Occurrentes worldwide “Encounters for Peace,” a digital wall for posting messages of peace and hope in prayerful solidarity with our suffering brothers and sisters in Ukraine and Russia.
“The community at Christ the King School is working creatively to support Pope Francis’ message calling for the consecration of Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary,” Christ the King School principal Angela Chang said. “We collaborated with Scholas USA to contribute peace prayer murals from each classroom, and a variety of interpretations were collected and displayed. We hope that the prayers from our school community can unite us in prayer with other young people around the world for healing, peace, and an end to war.”
