The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles presents a special online project, “Oh! Pansori,” series every second and fourth Wednesday of each month, now through March 23 on the KCCLA YouTube channel.
“Oh! Pansori” is a new series made by the Korean Culture and Information Service to introduce Korean traditional vocal genres known as pansori, with professor Anna Yates who is currently teaching at Seoul National University. The four episodes are intended to be easy to follow and will allow viewers to learn the basics of pansori.
The “Oh! Pansori” series will guide viewers to the basic knowledge about Korean traditional vocal genre pansori. The first episode, which is out now, discusses breathing, how to practice and three basic vocalizations of pansori. The Feb. 23 episode will cover the four basic beats of pansori, while the March 9 episode will examine the meaning and role of aniri. The March 23 finale will introduce the concept of chuimsae.
“Pansori is difficult, even for Koreans who grew up listening pansori,” director of KCCLA Wijin Park said. “This ‘Oh! Pansori’ series will provide an easy first step to learn about pansori. Professor Yates will walk through with audience about questions and experience of pansori”.
