The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau is continuing to investigate the Jan. 10 murder of an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer assigned to the Olympic Division. Authorities announced on Jan. 12 that four people have been arrested in connection with the homicide but did not identify the suspects.
The homicide occurred at approximately 9:16 p.m. in the 1700 block of East 87th Street, in an unincorporated area of South Los Angeles. The off-duty officer was identified as Fernando Arroyos, 27, a three-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Century Station received a call about an assault with shots fired and found Arroyos lying unresponsive in an alley. He sustained at least one gunshot wound to the body, authorities said. Arroyos was transported by a patrol car to Saint Francis Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives are also investigating whether a shooting in which another man was struck a couple miles away is connected. Anyone with information is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323)890-5500.
