VINTAGE: Remembering those who serve on Veterans Day
The Nov. 11, 1954, issue of the Park Labrea News offered a special tribute in observance of Veterans Day. In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the first commemoration of Armistice Day on Nov. 11 in celebration of the end of World War I, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In 1938, the U.S. Congress designated Nov. 11 as an annual legal holiday and in 1954, changed the holiday’s name to Veterans Day in recognition of all members who have served in the armed forces. This year, the city of West Hollywood will hold a virtual Veterans Day tribute on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. on the WeHoTV YouTube channel at youtube.com/wehotv. Forest Lawn is also holding a virtual Veterans Day observance on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. To view the event, visit facebook.com/forestlawn.
