Television City, owned by an affiliate of Hackman Capital Partners and operated in partnership with The MBS Group, recently welcomed more than 20 participants from ManifestWorks, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that provides people impacted by foster care, incarceration and homelessness with job training, placement and support for careers in the film and television production industry.
The training and tour was provided by the MBS Illumination Program in partnership with Television City’s Changing Lenses initiative – a $1 million pledge to promote opportunities that increase diversity, equity and inclusion in the entertainment industry.
Participants toured the sets of “The Price is Right” and “The Young and the Restless,” as well as the studio’s lighting and grip warehouse, control rooms, and production and special effects shops. Producer Kristin Hahn spoke to participants about industry careers.
“In our program, participants learn by doing. Giving our participants a chance to set foot on future job sites puts everyone in a better position for success,” said Dan Seaver, executive director and co-founder of ManifestWorks.
“Getting access to historic and working sound stages is such an epic treat. Even more, the Television City employees who showed up to talk about everything from stage lighting to special effects helped us imagine the many professional opportunities to come.”
“Our goal was to demonstrate that there are different jobs that you can get into within this industry, not just the typical ones people know about,” added Irene Phan, vice president of The MBS Group. “We hope to forge a substantial partnership with ManifestWorks in 2022 to open more eyes to other career avenues our industry provides.”
