Koreatown diners gathered on Nov. 10 for an evening of natural wine tasting. Guests could choose among three types of natural wine, or opt for a flight. Natural wines are crafted from organic grapes and natural yeast, with no additives. Some also exclude sulfites, meaning the wine will taste different on any given day.
At Lock & Key’s event, guests could try a Friend and Farmer natural white made with grapes from the Castilla La Mancha region of Spain. The refreshing white has a crisp and citrusy taste with an oak-free finish.
Artemis Botanical provided an orange wine called “Take it Easy.” The fruit-forward wine contains hints of mango and orange, which makes for a pleasing aromatic, medium-bodied wine.
Finally, a bold red was offered courtesy of Absentee Winery. “Elephant” features raspberry and blackberry notes. The winemaker sources all its fruit from an organic vineyard in Mendocino County, and “Elephant” is bottled unfiltered with no sulfur or additives.
All three wines paired nicely with Lock & Key’s bounty of oozing, Chicago-style pizzas, including portobello, margherita and sopressata. A deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich served on a brioche bun wows for dessert.
