The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is warning the public about an ongoing crime trend in which suspects target victims at different places throughout the city, follow them home and rob them.
Victims have been followed from the Melrose District and the Jewelry District downtown, as well as nightclubs and expensive restaurants throughout Los Angeles. The suspects have targeted victims for expensive jewelry such as watches and necklaces, as well as luxury purses. Victims have also been targeted because they are driving expensive vehicles, police said. The crimes are being committed by numerous different suspects.
Members of the public are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and look for anything unusual, particularly when parking and exiting a vehicle. People are also encouraged to be aware as they leave restaurants, nightclubs, stores and malls.
Authorities said people should be cautious about displaying expensive property in public, such as purses, watches and jewelry. Record and report suspicious activity to the police. If a driver suspects they are being followed, call 911 and if possible, drive to the nearest police station.
