Join the Los Angeles Conservancy and Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Griffith Park.
Volunteer educators from the L.A. Conservancy and partnering organizations will be stationed at 28 locations throughout Griffith Park and will share stories about specific sites. No reservations are required and participants can select and visit any of the places that interest them.
Visitors to Griffith Park will learn about its history, flora and fauna, and the buildings, people and entities connected to the park during the past 125 years. Tour the Greek Theatre, learn about the Old Zoo, hear from a Tongva cultural educator and hike with an expert on Griffith Park.
Tours of the Griffith Observatory will be held every half hour from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Educational events will also be held throughout the day at the Travel Town Museum, Los Angeles Zoo, Autry Museum of the American West, Griffith Park Pony Rides and Fern Dell.
The event hub near the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round at 4730 Crystal Springs Drive will feature family-friendly activities, ranger-led hikes to the Old Zoo and food trucks. A birthday celebration and performance by the Independent Shakespeare company will be held at 11 a.m. at the event hub.
A free map with all of the sites to visit will be provided at the event hub and doubles as a passport booklet in which participants can collect stamps and win prizes.
