Metro has announced that the next lunchtime webinar with information on the Metro Purple Line Extension project will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at noon, via Zoom. Participants can call (888)788-0099 or visit zoom.us/j/93705485587#success and use the meeting ID: 937 0548 5587.
Work is ongoing at many locations along the route between the Wilshire/Western and Westwood/VA Hospital subway stations. Piling work is being conducted through Oct. 1 on the north sidewalk of Wilshire Boulevard between Gayley and Veteran avenues. The piles are steel beams that will support the walls of the future Westwood/UCLA subway station.
Farther east, crews are installing geotechnical instruments along Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills to monitor impacts caused by construction and tunneling. Ten-foot poles with geotechnical instruments will be temporarily installed on public sidewalks and will be in place for approximately one month before being removed and relocated. Each pole’s installation and removal will require intermittent traffic lane and sidewalk closures. Sidewalks will continue to be accessible once poles are in place. The instrumentation work is expected to last through Nov. 21.
Crews are also working in the area near Wilshire/La Cienega, where the tunneling machines from the first section of the subway project from Wilshire/Western to Wilshire/La Cienega are being removed. Disassembly and removal of the machines is being done in sections. Gale Drive will be intermittently closed north of Wilshire Boulevard when trucks are removing sections of the machines.
Concrete pouring and material deliveries are also still occurring at the Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Brea subway stations. Appendage structures that house subway systems are being constructed and lane closures may also be necessary near the subway stations.
