Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division are searching for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian on Sept. 27 on Crenshaw Boulevard near Ninth Street.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. as the male pedestrian was crossing Crenshaw Boulevard outside of a marked crosswalk, said Detective Olin Osborne, of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division. A white Tesla sedan was traveling southbound on Crenshaw Boulevard and struck the victim, he added.
Witnesses said the Tesla driver stopped briefly and exited his vehicle before getting back in and driving south on Crenshaw Boulevard. The Tesla was last seen turning westbound onto Olympic Boulevard, Osborne added.
“There is very little information other than that,” he said. “We are actively searching for the driver.”
The victim was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin.
Osborne said investigators are searching the neighborhood for security cameras and potential witnesses. No description of the driver was provided.
