The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles presents a special online project titled “English Gugak Series: Korean Traditional Music 101-Sound of Korea” running every second and fourth Wednesday of each month through Jan. 26 on KCCLA’s YouTube channel.

“Sound of Korea” is a new series by KTM101 that introduces traditional Korean instruments and vocal genres. Ten episodes featuring unique instruments and vocalists from Korea are included in the series.

Instruments include the daegeum, a transverse wind instrument; cheolhyeongeum, a metal stringed instrument; geomungo, a six-string board zither; ajaeng, a bowed zither with seven strings; piri, a double-reed bamboo instrument; and haegeum, a two-string fiddle. Jeong-ga, classical vocal for music; gayageum byeongchang, featuring gayageum with singing; and minyo, which are folk songs, will also be included in the series.

“Korean Traditional Music 101’s new ‘English Gugak Series -Sound of Korea’ will provide performance videos along with English subtitles,” KCCLA Director Wijin Park said. “Every Wednesday, the second and fourth weeks of every month, enjoy the beautiful Korean sound introduced through the KCCLA’s YouTube channel.”
