To encourage more people to get vaccinated, Los Angeles Animal Services will hold special in-person adoption events at its six shelters on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. People interested in adopting a pet can receive a special discount by showing proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
For people not yet vaccinated, the Los Angeles Fire Department will administer COVID-19 vaccines at the Chesterfield Square/South L.A. shelter, 1850 W. 60th St.; the North Central shelter, 3201 Lacy St.; and the East Valley shelter, 14409 Vanowen St.
“As we see COVID-related cases back on the rise, I am pleased that we will be able to offer the vaccine at three of our Animal Services center locations while also providing an incentive for animal lovers to adopt and bring home a new furry family member,” said Dana Brown, general manager for Los Angeles Animal Services.
People who are fully vaccinated will have adoption fees waived, and those with a first shot will have adoption fees reduced by 50%. A $20 licensing fee still applies.
Beginning on Aug. 21, all six Los Angeles Animal Services locations will begin operating without appointments on weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments will still be required on weekdays for pet adoptions, fostering and owner surrender. The centers are closed on Monday. Sick or injured animals will be admitted without an appointment. For appointments and information, call (888)452-7381, or visit laanimalservices.com.
