Los Angeles City Councilmen Mitch O’Farrell, 13th District, and Paul Krekorian, 2nd District, on Aug. 4 co-introduced a motion that will create a plan for equitable hiring as the city pursues its renewable energy goals mapped out by the LA100 study.
The LA100 study, which was completed in March, charts a path for the city of Los Angeles to realize its goal of becoming fully powered by renewable energy sources.
The motion directs LADWP to create a long-term hiring and workforce plan, coinciding with the pathways identified in the LA100 study, that will ensure equity as new jobs are created and the city’s clean energy future comes to fruition. The plan will include a focus on ensuring project labor agreements, prevailing wage and targeted hiring requirements, and an increase in hiring from neighborhoods in environmentally and economically disadvantaged communities.
