Six members of the California Assembly announced their endorsements on Aug. 18 of Richard Bloom’s campaign for Los Angeles County Supervisor, 3rd District. Assemblymembers Autumn Burke, Cristina Garcia, Eduardo Garcia, Tom Daly, Jim Wood and Kevin Mullin have endorsed Bloom, who is running race to replace outgoing Supervisor Sheila Kuehl in 2022.
“Richard Bloom is a purposeful public servant,” Burke said. “His experience and knowledge as a former mayor (of Santa Monica) and nonprofit leader would be invaluable on the board of supervisors. Richard has fought for legislation to improve our schools, build affordable housing and protect working families. I’m proud to support Richard’s campaign to be L.A. County’s next supervisor.”
“Richard Bloom has a unique understanding of the challenges our communities are facing,” added Garcia, who is chairwoman of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus. “After working as a family law attorney for three decades, Richard went to work helping low income families and individuals struggling with homelessness. Richard served as an executive director of PATH, a homeless services and housing agency working to help people off the streets and into shelter. In his time in public service as a mayor, city councilmember, and state assembly member, Richard has consistently fought for more resources and support for unhoused people and those on the verge of homelessness.”
In 2012, Bloom was elected to represent the 50th Assembly District, which includes Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, West Los Angeles, Santa Monica and many other communities on the westside. In the California Assembly, he has advocated for environmental protection, affordable housing, renter protections and services that address the causes of homelessness. Bloom has served as chairman of the Assembly’s Budget Subcommittee on Natural Resources, Energy, Climate Crisis and Transportation, overseeing the budgets of numerous state departments including the Natural Resources Agency, CalFire, Caltrans and the DMV. He has also served on numerous committees, including the Higher Education, Business Professions and Local Government committees.
