The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is warning people to beware of caller ID spoofing scams that can make phone calls appear like they are being made from legitimate numbers.
The scams are becoming very common, according to law enforcement authorities. Criminals use software and electronic equipment to make automated phone calls appear to be from local numbers, known companies and legitimate government agencies. The perpetrators often convince victims to reveal confidential personal information leading to identity and financial theft.
Members of the public are warned to hang up and do not press any numbers if a robocall is received.
