The Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education on June 22 approved the appointment of Beverly Hills High School Assistant Principal Torray Johnson.
Johnson has nearly 20 years of experience, starting as a high school English teacher with the New Orleans Parish School Board, and then later with the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. He then spent 10 years in various roles including English Department chair, academy lead teacher and adult school counselor with the Los Angeles Unified School District. He was then called into the administrative ranks, joining the Antelope Valley Union High School District. His first assignment was at Palmdale High School as the vice principal overseeing athletics; most recently, he served as the vice principal overseeing special education at Antelope Valley High School.
“Mr. Johnson’s extensive time in the high school arena leaves him well-poised to further the exemplary work of our BHHS staff, students and community,” said Superintendent Michael Bregy.
“With substantial experience in [Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports], special education and beyond, Mr. Johnson will bring an innovative perspective to our Norman family.”
Johnson holds a master of education degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the UCLA Principal Leadership Institute, a master of arts degree in secondary teacher education from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor of arts degree in English literature from Dillard University. Johnson will begin in the new position with BHUSD in July.
“In looking at the accomplishments of the current team, I feel fortunate to work with individuals who not only value education but place student outcomes at the center of their decisions,” Johnson said. “As the district continues to grow and meet its goals, I look forward to offering my skill set to the students, families and staff of BHHS and the Beverly Hills Unified School District.”
