The Getty will host a virtual opening for two exhibitions, “Mario Giacomelli: Figure/Ground” and “The Expanded Landscape,” on Monday, June 28, from 5 to 6 p.m. on Zoom. To receive a link, email firstname.lastname@example.org today, June 24.
The exhibits will be on display from June 29 to Oct. 10.
“Figure/Ground” focuses on the work of Giacomelli (1925-2000), who was born into poverty and was self-taught as a photographer.
“The Expanded Landscape” showcases the work of contemporary artists who create large-scale works that expand the understanding of what landscape photography can be. Like Giacomelli, whose work is on view in the concurrent exhibition, they favor graphically abstract compositions, elevated vantage points that eliminate the horizon, experimental techniques or personal relationships with a specific landscape.
The exhibitions are available for in-person viewing by making a reservation at tickets.getty.edu.
