Two men were killed and a woman was injured in a shooting early on May 3 in the Wilshire Division.
Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau Homicide Unit are investigating the case, which remained unsolved as of Wednesday morning.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1 a.m. in a strip mall parking lot at the northwest corner of Crenshaw and Washington boulevards. Officers responded to calls about gunshots and found one victim seated in a vehicle and another man lying on the pavement in the parking lot. Both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were unresponsive, police said. Paramedics pronounced the men dead at the scene.
The female victim was found inside a vehicle and is believed to have been a bystander accidentally struck by the gunfire. She suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
Detectives have not released a motive for the shooting. News camera footage taken after the incident and posted online shows a handgun near the victim lying on the pavement, and the other victim seated in the driver’s seat of a red car in the parking lot. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner identified the decedents as Marlon Carrillo, 44, and Ruben Vasquez, 26, both of Los Angeles.
Investigators with the West Bureau Homicide Unit declined to comment further. No information was provided about any potential suspects.
