The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and KCRW will continue their longtime partnership with the 2021 KCRW’s World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl.
The four shows during this Hollywood Bowl season feature an eclectic line-up of artists, including Kamasi Washington and Earl Sweatshirt (July 18), hosted by KCRW Program Director of Music Anne Litt; Reggae Night with Ziggy Marley and Wailing Souls (Aug. 1), hosted by KCRW DJ Travis Holcombe; Brittany Howard, Jamila Woods and Georgia Anne Muldrow (Sept. 18), hosted by KCRW’s co-host of “Morning Becomes Eclectic” Novena Carmel; and James Blake with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins (Sept. 25), hosted by KCRW’s co-host of “Morning Becomes Eclectic” Anthony Valadez. The four-concert series, abbreviated for the 2021 season, will return to six concerts in 2022.
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Bowl season due to COVID-19, the LA Phil and KCRW collaborated to present highlights of past KCRW’s World Festivals at the Hollywood Bowl through an exclusive series of archival concerts broadcast on-air featuring live recorded sets from Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Femi Kuti, Janelle Monae, Robyn, Blondi, St. Vincent, Blood Orange, Cibo Matto, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Devotchka, Little Dragon, Jimmy Cliff, Flying Lotus, Santigold, Sigur Rós, Toro y Moi and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith.
Following the health guidelines set forth by Los Angeles County, the Hollywood Bowl will be a majority vaccinated venue beginning July 1, with two sections reserved for non-vaccinated concertgoers with proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to attendance. Mask wearing will be required for all attendees. The Hollywood Bowl will continue to receive public health guidelines from Los Angeles County and policies may evolve over the summer.
