Akasha Oscar dinner at home
On April 24 and 25, Akasha Richmond prepares cocktails, snacks, appetizers, main dishes and desserts inspired by Oscar-nominated movies. This Oscar weekend menu special is only available for takeout and delivery. Begin with a cocktail based on five nominated movies. Each is made with a different spirit. Appetizers and snacks include signature potato pancakes and cured salmon and a half-dozen of Akasha’s famous Tandoori chicken wings that are ready to heat at home and include limes, mint and tamarind chutney. Comfort dinners include crispy, gluten-free fried half chicken with honey mustard sauce; crab cakes; three cheese macaroni and Coleman Farms kale braised with green garlic. In honor of the 93rd annual Oscars on Sunday, April 25, the food and beverage team at W Los Angeles has prepared an array of cocktail recipes made with different spirits. Inspired by this year’s Academy Award for Best Picture nominations, guests can sip Cassi’s Revenge (“Promising Young Woman”) made with Balvenie Scotch, Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth, Heering Cherry Liqueur, orange juice and pomegranate juice. The Blue Draft is a nod to the movie “Mank” and is made with Indigo Gin, Tito’s Vodka and Lillet Blanc. Vodka drinkers will enjoy Family Farm, inspired by “Minari” and made with Ketel One Vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, Cointreau and Granny Smith apple slices. Shake Shack opens in Santa Monica
A new Shake Shack just opened in the former Panera Bread space in Santa Monica. The new location features reclaimed wood paneling by Pioneer Works and custom solar panels. A garden room with skylights and a spacious outdoor patio offer bright and airy spaces with a custom mural by Los Angeles muralist and artist Steph Hendrix. Guests can use the walkup window and pickup shelf as part of the new Shack Track, a digital pre-ordering and fulfillment experience. As part of the larger mission to Stand for Something Good, Shake Shack partnered with Westside Food Bank. On opening day, April 18, they donated a burger for every burger sold to the nonprofit organization. This social service agency throughout Western Los Angeles County ensures that low-income families and their children, as well as seniors, veterans, unhoused people and those who have lost wages due to COVID-19, have access to free, nutritious food.
