In celebration of Earth Day 2021, the Los Angeles Board of Public Works is sponsoring a series of virtual webinars, activities, celebrations and fundraisers to inform residents about work the Los Angeles Department of Public Works is pursuing to achieve the goals of Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Green New Deal and to protect the environment.
In lieu of the annual signature event, Earth Day LA, staff from every division at L.A. Sanitation and Environment and the Board of Public Works made short videos explaining their projects and programs, as they would have at the in-person event. The videos can be viewed through Friday, April 23, and will inform and educate about the environment, recycling, water quality and composting. The videos will be available in daily installments on LASAN’s Facebook and Twitter in a special Earth Day 2021 playlist.
Other Earth Month activities include an online forum on “Sidewalks, Trees and the Public Right of Way,” with Malarich and Deputy City Engineer Julie Sauter, on Thursday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. To register, visit bit.ly/3dLJ0cJ.
On April 22 at 1 p.m., TreePeople presents “T.R.E.E. Talks: Combating Urban Heat,” with Segura speaking about the intersection of environmental justice and urban heat islands. To register, visit treepeople.org/treetalks.
