The Japan Foundation presents the online exhibition “11 Stories on Distanced Relationships: Contemporary Art from Japan” running through May 5. The goal is to promote new artistic exchanges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The theme of the exhibition is “translating distance.” The pandemic brought restrictions that forced people to be more conscious of distance. The exhibit’s organizers said it ushered a major turning point in the way people communicate. The exhibition presents works that have been created around different types of distances, including distances between people, between land and people, between historical points in time and the present, and physical places and virtual spaces.
