The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County will host the inaugural Women in Science and Culture event on Thursday to celebrate the achievements of local women and to empower more girls to access education and mentorship opportunities in the science, technology, environment, arts and mathematics fields.
The online event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. will honor seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones, founder of the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society, and Chicana activist, artist and muralist Barbara Carrasco for their work in the fields of art and science.
The event will be hosted by Alie Ward, Emmy Award-winning science correspondent for CBS’ “The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation with Mo Rocca,” and host of “Did I Mention Invention?” on the CW. The event will include a live fireside chat with NHLMAC President and Director, Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga.
Ticket pricing begins at $100 for individual general admission. The proceeds of the event will be used to support the expansion of NHMLAC’s most-popular program, Adventures in Nature, which offers unique hands-on learning experiences for students aged pre-K through eighth Grade.
