The city of West Hollywood’s human rights speakers series hosted a free panel discussion this week about the currently streaming Netflix documentary, “Disclosure.” The documentary is an eye-opening look at depictions of transgender people in film and television, revealing how “Hollywood” simultaneously reflects and manufactures society’s deepest anxieties about gender.
In the documentary, leading transgender thinkers and creatives, including Laverne Cox, Lilly Wachowski, Yance Ford, Mj Rodriguez, Jamie Clayton and Chaz Bono, share their reactions and resistance to some of Hollywood’s most beloved moments.
The free virtual panel discussion, which streamed on Jan. 27, is available to watch online at weho.org/hrss.
The event featured director Sam Feder, Laverne Cox, Vice President of Programs for TransCanWork Drian Juarez and Vice Chair of West Hollywood’s Transgender Advisory Board Alexis Sanchez. Councilman John Erickson moderated the discussion.
West Hollywood’s human rights speakers series brings together diverse communities to learn about and discuss global, national and local human rights issues in a supportive environment and reflects the city’s commitment to human rights.
