Police are searching for clues in the murder of a woman in her late 30s on Jan. 9 on Mariposa Street near Council Street in Koreatown.
Witnesses told police that a gunman approached the victim at approximately 1:18 a.m. as she walked to her car. The suspect shot the victim multiple times before fleeing on foot. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the gunman. He was described as being Black, in his 20s and wearing dark clothing, and was last seen running southbound on Mariposa Street toward First Street.
Detectives with the LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide Unit are investigating the murder. They have been searching for security camera video and other evidence they hope will shed light on exactly what occurred. No motive has been established, Detective Sean Kinchla said.
“We’re not sure if it was a robbery or she was targeted or it was random,” he said. “[Detectives will] be out there canvassing for video and will go from there.”
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The dog was also injured by gunfire but is expected to survive. Authorities have no further details about the crime Kinchla added.
