Join the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and the Holocaust Museum LA for the “Welcome to Paradise: Refugees at Home in L.A.” program series on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m.
HIAS provides humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees and asylum seekers. The upcoming event will give virtual attendees the opportunity to hear the inspiring stories of refugees.
As part of the event, Jordanna Gessler, vice president of education and exhibits at the museum, and Joe Goldman, community engagement director for HIAS’s western region, will speak to Henry Slucki, a Holocaust survivor who recently retired as professor of behavioral sciences at USC. After enduring an arduous escape from Nazi-occupied France, Slucki’s parents sent him to the United States alone as part of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s initiative to save refugee children.
