Beginning this month, the city of Beverly Hills will be advancing its work on the housing element update of its general plan which will need to be completed by October 2021. The housing element will outline its future housing goals and identify policies and programs that will be implemented to meet the needs of the community.
The state of California requires each jurisdiction’s housing element be updated every eight years, and the final housing element must be approved and certified by the state. The city’s housing element update will cover the period from 2021 to 2029.
In the coming months, the city’s Community Development staff will work with the City Council, the Planning Commission and the community to develop a draft plan for adoption that can be reviewed and approved by the state. The city will host public meetings and workshops for residents to provide feedback and data for the draft plan.
The first virtual community meeting will be held on Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. For information, visit beverlyhills.org/housingelementupdate or email housingelement@beverlyhills.org.
