Element29 Deli to-go
The Jewish deli Element29 Deli, owned and operated by chef Jeff Meyer, a Detroit native, is open for takeaway. Miller brings beloved delicatessen flare to Los Angeles with a full-stack pastrami sandwich. It’s a twist on a classic featuring juicy pastrami paired with fresh coleslaw and swiss cheese on marble rye. His brisket melt sandwich is dry rubbed brisket in African ras el hanout spices and then smoked for 18 hours straight. Another favorite is his Caesar sandwich, combining toasted pepita and pistachio pesto with expertly dried salami. Meyer makes his own corned beef with a house-made pickling spice featuring mace, ginger, allspice, cloves, mustard seed and coriander. He slow-simmers it for four hours before slicing it for sandwiches. He also brines his turkey in balsamic marinade for up to five days before it is smoked in house for six to seven hours. All the bread is local from small bakeries within a one-mile radius from the deli. 8636 Washington Blvd., (323)325-3906.

Foo Fighters taco at Casa Vega
Following the successful first partnership with Pete Wentz and Fall Out Boy back in October, Christy Vega of Casa Vega is teaming up with longtime friend Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters to create an all-new limited-edition taco. With L.A. County’s current restrictions on dine-in service, the Foo Fighters taco is available now for takeout only at Casa Vega’s drive-thru for the time being. The $7 Foo Fighters taco is inspired by Dave’s passion for smoking meat. Casa Vega brought in a smoker just for this taco. They smoke brisket in a Mexican spice rub and drizzle it with backbeat barbecue sauce before topping the homemade flour tortilla taco with Mexican coleslaw, pickled onions and cilantro. A special Foo Fighters cocktail called Los Luchadores Foo is made with La Gritona Reposado tequila and fresh lime juice. It’s topped with Modelo Especial and is $14. The profits from each taco will be donated to No Us Without You, a charity providing food security for undocumented back-of-house staff and their families. It was created by Va’La Hospitality in the early weeks of the pandemic. Also part of the collaboration is a special Foo Fighters x Casa Vega t-shirt sold on Casa Vega’s website, with the proceeds also being donated to No Us Without You. 13301 Ventura Blvd., (818)788-4868.
