The Los Angeles Police Department is warning motorists about the dangers of impaired driving, particularly during the holidays.
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment and checking drivers for proper licensing at checkpoints. A DUI checkpoint will be held in the local area on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 11 p.m. at La Brea and Oakwood avenues. Other checkpoints are planned throughout the city.
The LAPD reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” People who take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, may be impaired enough to be arrested for DUI. Marijuana can also cause impairment, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs. For information, visit lapdonline.org.
