Neighborhood and community councils are holding board elections in 2021, and the Mid City West Community Council’s election is fast approaching.
Residents and stakeholders of Mid City West have until Dec. 28 to file for candidacy for the next community council board. The election will be held on Tuesday, March 16.
There are 35 seats on the board in six categories: three homeowner representatives, five renter representatives, six nonprofit representatives, six business representatives, seven geographic zone representatives and eight at-large representatives. Zone representatives must live within the boundaries of the zone in which they are running. For information, see midcitywest.org/about-us/boundaries-of-mid-city-west.
All other 28 seats are open to any Mid City West stakeholder. Stakeholders are considered those “who live, work or own real property in the neighborhood and also to those who declare a stake in the neighborhood as a community interest stakeholder, defined as a person who affirms a substantial and ongoing participation within the neighborhood council’s boundaries and who are at least 18 years old.”
“While raising two daughters, I became concerned for their safety on our neighborhood streets. So I got involved with the MCWCC and did my best to make our streets safer for everyone. In the process I learned about the wonderful, diverse people that make up Mid City West,” outgoing board member Taylor Nichols said.
A “Candidate 101” virtual event will be held at 7 p.mm. on Monday, Nov. 30. The event will give prospective candidates the nuts and bolts on the election process and also share information about the types of exciting projects they can work on as a Mid City West board member. For the first time, all voting for neighborhood councils will be done entirely by mail and in two parts.
Residents and stakeholders who are at least 16 years old by Election Day are eligible to vote.
