Metro has announced temporary full closures of Constellation Boulevard in Century City as part of Purple Line Extension subway construction.
The 24-hour closures will block traffic along Constellation Boulevard east and west of Avenue of the Stars. The intersection at Avenue of the Stars/Constellation Boulevard will remain open on weekdays but will be closed every weekend through Nov. 22.
The lane closures will facilitate station box piling and decking during low-traffic conditions due to COVID-19 public health orders. Constellation Boulevard west of Avenue of the Stars will be restored by Nov. 22. Constellation Boulevard east of Avenue of the Stars will be reopened by Jan. 2.
To stay up to date on subway construction, join a webinar on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from noon to 1 p.m. To listen to the webinar, call (213)279-1001, and use the Conference ID: 856 953 689#. Hauling hours for removing the soil are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., daily.
Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction between Beverly and Canon drives, and may be reduced to one lane in each direction at night.
Near Wilshire/La Cienega and Wilshire/Gale, station construction continues 24 hours within staging yards. Eastbound Wilshire Boulevard may be intermittently reduced to one lane in the area from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., on weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends, as needed. Gale Drive will be intermittently closed at Wilshire Boulevard to support construction. Access to Gale Drive will be maintained from San Vicente Boulevard.
The ongoing station construction is also impacting the intersection of Wilshire and San Vicente boulevards. A K-rail enclosure has been implemented in the center lanes of the intersection to support tunnel work. Eastbound Wilshire Boulevard may be intermittently reduced to a single lane between Stanley Drive and San Vicente Boulevard. All left turns in the intersection of Wilshire and San Vicente boulevards will be restricted and directional closures will be implemented on weekends.
At Wilshire/Fairfax, station construction, hauling and concrete pouring are ongoing. Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between San Diego Way and Spaulding Avenue through summer 2021. Intermittent lane closures may be in place to support deck panel maintenance and soil investigations in the Wilshire/Fairfax station area. Anticipated work hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. Ogden Drive will be closed intermittently Monday through Saturday at Wilshire Boulevard, and Orange Grove Avenue remains closed south of Wilshire Boulevard.
At Wilshire/La Brea and Wilshire/Sycamore, hauling, deliveries and tunneling support are ongoing. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., Monday through Saturday.
Through Saturday, Feb. 27, Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Detroit and June Streets, and Orange Drive will remain closed north of Wilshire Boulevard.
A work zone on the west side of Wilshire Boulevard at Rimpau Boulevard is expected to be in place until March 2021 to support concrete pouring and underground subway tunnel construction. Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between June Street and Muirfield Road.
Near Wilshire/Western, tunneling support continues 24 hours in a staging yard along the north side of Wilshire Boulevard. Northbound Manhattan Place will be closed intermittently just north of Wilshire Boulevard. Access to businesses will be maintained and a signed pedestrian detour has been installed. The closure is a public safety measure to support ongoing excavation and construction.
