Sweetfin expands locations in L.A.
Celebrity chef Dakota Weiss’ “Pole to Bowl” casual restaurant concept Sweetfin takes all the familiar flavors of sushi and puts them in an easy to eat, customizable and affordable bowl. The menu is 100% gluten free, as well as vegan- and vegetarian-friendly. Choose from one of their signature creations, or build your own with proteins that include tuna, snapper, salmon or tofu. Unique toppings include crispy onions, wasabi coconut, shiso and chile-marinated oranges. Be sure to get a bag of her wasabi furikake-enhanced, taro-root chips. Little Llama Peruvian Tacos opens
The extremely popular stand at Smorgasburg, which is led by Angela Wagner and chef Jean Valcarcel, is opening its first brick and mortar in DTLA on Friday, Oct. 9. Enjoy the exotic flavors of classic Peruvian and SoCal Mexican flavors in tacos, tostadas, burritos, salads, bowls and plates. There are a variety of ceviche tostadas, and the Lomo Saltado taco was the most popular item during their Sunday Smorgasburg tenure. This year, Cochon 555 will return on Tuesday, Oct. 13, through Saturday, Oct. 17, as a virtual and interactive feast featuring some of the top chefs and butchers in L.A. Chef Travis Strickland (Baltaire) will be featured on Tuesday, Oct. 13, and chef Chris Flint and head butcher Teresa Cabansag (Gwen) will be demonstrating on Wednesday, Oct. 14. On Friday, Oct. 16, there will be a special chef collaboration dinner featuring chef Valerie Gordon (Valerie Confections), Minh Phan (Porridge & Puffs), Keegan Fong (Woon Kitchen) and Roselma Samala (Genever Bar). Chefs will be doing one course as part of the special, multi-course dinner available for one night only. Executive chef Ben Diaz from Le Jardin at the Culver Hotel will conduct a virtual dinner via Zoom on Saturday, Oct. 17. Participants have the opportunity to partake in an intimate, interactive dining experience, complete with all of the ingredients necessary to enjoy a pork-centric meal. The package includes wine and cocktails. Cochon 555 has committed to donate 80% of the ticket proceeds to the participating restaurants. Tickets are $115 each or $200 for two people, and include a multi-course meal that is prepared by the featured chef with ingredients sourced from local California farms.
