Los Angeles County issued an updated health officer order on Sept. 2 allowing hair salons and barbershops to reopen indoors at 25% capacity.
Hair salons and barbershops are required to also have infection control safeguards in place and comply with the county’s Health Officer Order Reopening Protocols, which mandate physical distancing and face coverings for employees and customers.
Additionally, Los Angeles County will allow schools to offer on campus services beginning on Sept. 14 for small cohorts of K-12 students who need learning support, including children with special needs who have an individualized education plan. Waivers are not required, but schools must submit an operational plan to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and must comply with health officer orders and protocols. Schools receiving waivers are required to maintain small groups of no more than 12 students and two supervisors.
Following the county’s announcement, the city of Beverly Hills notified hair salons and barbershops that they could begin operating immediately if they meet the health order protocols. For information, visit beverlyhills.org/coronavirus. Hair salons and barbershops are encouraged to continue operating outdoors through the city’s “OpenBH” program, as limited capacity for indoor services will likely continue. All other county health officer orders remain in place. Nail salons may not operate indoors under the current health order.
