Women’s March Foundation will join the 57th anniversary commemoration of the March on Washington in Los Angeles. The caravan and rally is scheduled for Aug. 28, from noon to 2 p.m. at Leimert Park.
The national commemoration of the 1963 civil rights march on Washington is timely amid widespread protests and unrest over the police killings of Black Americans. The caravan and rally will focus on the black vote and the civil rights Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for on Aug. 28, 1963, the date of the first March on Washington. Speakers include community leaders such U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles), the Rev. William D. Smart.
The March on Washington on Aug. 28, 1963, was a watershed moment in the fight for racial justice in America and is remembered for the iconic “I Have A Dream” speech by King.
