The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County will host the final event of its Summer Nights at Home series on Aug. 7.
NHMLAC will livestream its free festive summer program, so people can enjoy while they are safe and comfortable at home. The summer night event will feature a DIY botanical cocktail recipe, a discussion with NHMLAC staff about how plants and animals depend on each other for survival and end the night with music.
Drink curators at Post & Beam have crafted a new summertime cocktail called the Lavender-Honey Summer Collins. This bright and effervescent libation is inspired by the Pollinator Meadow at the Natural History Museum.
NHMLAC’s discussion “Plants and Their Wildlife Partners” will begin at 6 p.m. Most plants need animals to pollinate their flowers or spread their seeds and many animals, especially insects and birds, rely on plants for food or nesting. The museum’s Nature Gardens Horticulture team will share some of the best plants and techniques for creating a healthy, vibrant habitat for wildlife.
Steven Mendoza, a gallery interpreter, will moderate the discussion between Carol Bornstein, director of living collections, Stephanie Macias, a NHMLAC horticulturist, and Alan Duke, a native plant gardener who lives and works in Los Angeles.
DJ Knight of Zion will perform at 7 p.m. He began DJing and producing his blend of afro, ballroom and deep house music after relocating to Los Angeles six years ago, where he founded the party, “NEBULA.”
