The Hollywood Sign Trust has installed new high-definition cameras providing enhanced images of the landmark at hollywoodsign.org.
The trust worked with the office of Los Angeles City Councilman David Ryu, 4th District, and the city of Los Angeles to install the DK-H200 Hitachi Kokusai cameras, which capture quality images in a wide range of lighting conditions.
“It’s often said that some things get better with age,” Hollywood Sign Trust Chair Mark Panatier said. “As the historic Hollywood Sign approaches its 100th birthday, the Hollywood Sign Trust has upgraded its website cameras to ensure that this landmark is always ready for a close-up.”
The Hitachi DK-H200 cameras feature 2.6 million-pixel, native 1080P CMOS imagers, with greater than 1100 TV lines of resolution. They provide quality images, especially in remote observation applications like the Hollywood Sign. The new cameras were installed by Skylite Media, which specializes in systems integration, production and engineering services for the entertainment industry.
“Hitachi is pleased to partner with the Hollywood Sign Trust and supply an exceptional visual experience for its fans around the globe,” said Hitachi spokesperson Kenneth Cyr.
The Hollywood Sign was originally installed in 1923 as a billboard for a real estate development known as Hollywoodland. Today, the sign is recognized worldwide.
“Many visitors see the sign in person while hiking the trail to Mt. Lee,” Panatier added.
