On Aug. 1, Charlize Theron and Caruso hosted a one-of-a-kind, special drive-in screening of the Academy Award-winning film “Mad Max: Fury Road” to benefit the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.
Theron, actor and a United Nations Messenger of Peace, created CTAOP in 2007 with the hope of making a difference for youth in her home country of South Africa.
Aisha Tyler served as MC for the evening. Guests arrived in their cars for the classic drive-in movie experience located on the rooftop parking structure of the open-air shopping center.
Theron was joined by “Mad Max” co-star Nicholas Hoult for a special pre-screening Q&A.
All proceeds from the screening will benefit CTAOP and its work championing young people living in Africa by investing in organizations that prioritize and advance the health, education and community support of youth. By providing funding, building capacity and bringing awareness to the work of CTAOP’s Program Partners, CTAOP will ensure the youth they serve will reach their full potential.
The screening was produced by CTAOP, The Grove and CHCre8itve. To help raise funds, CTAOP also launched an online silent auction. The bidding for items ended Aug. 3.
Earlier this year, Theron and CTAOP partnered with Entertainment Industry Foundation and CARE to launch the Together for Her campaign to support individuals who are experiencing gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Theron and CTAOP committed $1 million to COVID-19 relief efforts with $500,000 specifically for Together for Her.
