Homeboy Industries has been selected as the recipient of the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize.
Inaugurated in 1996 as a tribute to Conrad N. Hilton’s lifetime of international humanitarian efforts, the prize is the world’s largest annual award presented to a nonprofit organization judged to have made extraordinary contributions toward alleviating human suffering. Homeboy Industries, the most well-known gang intervention, rehab and re-entry program in the world, is the 25th recipient of the prize.
“We are truly thankful to the Hilton Foundation and humbled to join a distinguished list of laureates from around the world,” Greg Boyle, founder of the nonprofit, wrote in a statement. “The transformative prize award of $2.5 million will support our 2030 ambition to change the way the world views, treats and judges the most marginalized and demonized. While the prize recognizes our 32-year journey in the service of compassion and healing for our most vulnerable populations in Los Angeles, and role as a global model for change by standing with those on the margins.”
