The Groundlings Theatre and School has announced that alumnus Ben Falcone is teaming with comedienne and spouse Melissa McCarthy, as well as Academy Award-winners Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, to host special livestreamed classes.
All proceeds will benefit the Groundlings Theatre and School, located at 7307 Melrose Ave.
Falcone, McCarthy, Faxon and Rash trained and performed together at the Groundlings Theatre and School. Falcone conceived and created the livestreamed classes to share techniques learned during comedy training and their subsequent careers, and to support his alma mater.
Falcone and McCarthy’s class, “Auditioning for Film and TV,” will take place this evening, May 14, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and will include insights from the Hollywood power couple known for producing, directing and acting in film and television projects. They will share their insights from both sides of the camera on the audition process, how to use improvisation in the audition room. The class sold out within a few hours of posting on May 10, but a waitlist is available.
Falcone, Faxon and Rash’s class, “Directing for the Screen,” will take place on Thursday, May 21, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The class will feature a discussion about directing, including breaking into the business, running a set and being a collaborator. The class is for early-career directors and actors hoping to better understand the director’s role. Enrollment will open on Sunday, May 17, at 10 a.m.
The classes will be conducted via Zoom and followed by a virtual Q&A session. Enrollment is $50 and limited to the first 250 attendees. For reservations, visit groundlings.com.
