Metro will hold a webinar on Wednesday, May 6, from noon to 1 p.m. with information on construction on the Purple Line Extension. The webinar will serve as the regular monthly meeting usually held at Beverly Hills City Hall. To register, visit register.gotowebinar.com/register/5216092364728356110.
Metro will also hold a webinar on Thursday, May 14, from noon to 1 p.m. on the Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega subway stations. To participate, call (786)535-3211, and use the access code 857-854-941.
Subway construction is occurring at many locations along Wilshire Boulevard. In Beverly Hills, expedited piling work is ongoing near the future Wilshire/Rodeo subway station. The Beverly Hills City Council approved a full closure of Wilshire Boulevard between El Camino and Crescent drives to allow for expedited piling during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The full closure allows additional equipment to be used for piling on the south side of Wilshire Boulevard and the station entrance at Reeves Drive. The closure also enables expedited decking.
The street can be quickly restored to allow two lanes in each direction when the “Safer at Home” order is rescinded, or upon request by the city of Beverly Hills. During the closure, work hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for drilling, and 9 to 11 p.m. for non-drilling activities. Canon and Reeves drives will remain closed at Wilshire Boulevard for the duration of the closure.
Work is also ongoing at Wilshire/La Cienega. Gale Drive will be intermittently closed to support construction in the Gale staging yard. Work hours are Monday through Saturday, 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Access to Gale Drive will be maintained from San Vicente Boulevard. The closure is a public safety measure due to high volumes of vehicles entering and exiting the property.
In mid-May, a new work zone will be created on Gale Drive for strut removal, which is anticipated to last four weeks. Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between La Cienega and San Vicente boulevards. Left turns and through traffic will be restricted at Gale and Tower drives.
Farther east near Wilshire/Fairfax, station construction, hauling and concrete pouring are ongoing. Ogden Drive will be closed intermittently at Wilshire Boulevard, Monday through Saturday. Orange Grove Avenue continues to be closed south of Wilshire Boulevard through June.
A block east of Wilshire/La Brea, a work zone was removed from the middle of Wilshire Boulevard between Sycamore Avenue and Orange Drive. Lanes may still be intermittently closed between Highland Avenue and Detroit street to support construction in the area.
A work zone in the center of Wilshire Boulevard just west of Rimpau Boulevard will remain in place through September. Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction between June Street and Muirfield Road.
Work is occurring 24-hours at a staging yard just west of the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue. Northbound Manhattan Place will be closed intermittently just north of Wilshire Boulevard. Intermittent single-lane closures may also occur on Wilshire Boulevard between Western Avenue and Manhattan Place.
