A man who authorities said was suffering from a “behavioral emergency” died by suicide on April 26 near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue. Los Angeles Police Department authorities said a death investigation is being handled by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 4 p.m. The victim was atop a four-story parking structure located just south of the Wiltern Theatre. Authorities attempted to convince the man to surrender but were unsuccessful. The death was reported at approximately 9 p.m., and the victim was not identified.

Some streets and areas around the parking structure remained closed for five hours, prompting an advisory to residents and motorists.
